Apparently it was a pump house built by William Bracey & Son, who after WW2 were one of only five merchants of soft fruit, mainly blackcurrants, in England, sending large tonnages each year to the wholesale markets, canning, and jam-making factories all over the country. The pumped water was used for fruit processing.
