From 1941 this part of the Blackdown Hills was R.A.F. Church Stanton, later renamed Culmhead. It was the first of a number of such airfields created in response to the threat of the Luftwaffe here in the South West. The control tower on the left (the second tower built here) is now derelict, with the smaller hut now a farm store. The modern business park boasts green credentials with a number of wing generators and solar farms elsewhere on the old airfield.
