Located on the western corner of North Street and Ship Street and originally two separate small shops which combined in the mid 1870s. Previously, number thirty eight had been a baker and bookseller whilst thirty nine had been a watch maker. After the amalgamation the shop has got through a steady stream of traders being a tailor, a retailer of bankrupt stock, ten years as the Midland Bank before it moved over the road to Image and then a mantle shop. From the 1930s it spent twenty five years as a ladies clothing shop, a brief period as a carpet shop, ten years as a Golden Egg restaurant, fifteen years as Athena before they moved to Image and the last sixteen as a travel agent.
