The shelter was built by the Cumberland and Westmorland Association in 1939, in memory of the famous huntsman who is buried in the nearby churchyard (see Image ). In the 1980s the building was converted into a shop, selling fairly traded goods. Now called the Fair World Shop, run by volunteers.
