The original church at Armley was allegedly built "in the time of Charles I" (one website suggests a date of c.1630). It was a "perpetual curacy" (what we would now call a chapel of ease) in the parish of Leeds, and dedicated to St Bartholomew. Armley is associated with the Gott family and their vault is within these remains. The present, much larger church was built within the churchyard in the 1870s Image
