By John Johnstone, 1868-70 in a "Venetian Renaissance" style, the first storey with paired arched windows (Image]), and an enriched frieze and parapet topped by the figure of Queen Victoria. It's not a large building but nicely put together. Grade II listed. Still owned by the council but now used as a venue for conferences, concerts etc. In front is a cast-iron clock tower (1892, by Gillett & Johnson). Grade II listed.
