2015 must have been a good year for pheasant breeding, because there often seem to be large numbers on the road. For reasons best known to them, they run in the roadway ahead of the car, rather than taking what might seem to be the more sensible and less strenuous option of disappearing into the long grass at the roadside. Pheasants are an introduced species and are bred for shooting.
