Captain Herbert Christian Holland was born on 16 July 1858; the son of Edward Holland, MP https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edward_Holland_(MP) He was educated at Eton https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eton_College and Sandhurst https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Royal_Military_Academy_Sandhurst He served with the 15th Hussarshttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/15th_The_King%27s_Hussars served in the 2nd Afghan Warhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Second_Anglo-Afghan_War the first Boer Warhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/First_Boer_War and the Anglo-Egyptian Warhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anglo-Egyptian_War In 1897 he became the Chief Constable of Derbyshire. He was awarded the MVO in 1905https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Royal_Victorian_Order and died on 3 May 1916. He was buried here two days later.
