The OS map shows a 'mill' at this point, but the village corn mill was the other side of the beck. The farmhouse and adjoining walls reflect the local geology with most of the stone being the local red Permian sandstone, but there is also a grey sandstone here [most likely Carboniferous from the nearby Pennines] and the occasional very dark stone which may well be dolerite from the Whin sill outcrops further into the hills.
