Viewed in late October 2012 when work is in progress on the project to build the first fully-riveted paddle steamer in the UK for sixty years. A nearby information board states the original Medway Queen was built in Troon in 1924, modified in 1938 to burn oil instead of coal. In 1939 the vessel was converted to minesweeping as HMS Medway Queen and took part in the Dunkirk evacuation in 1940. Returned to civilian use in 1947, the vessel was withdrawn from service in 1963. Its later history includes opening as a nightclub on the Isle of Wight in 1966. This restoration projects aims to use about 65% of the original material from the ship.
