This joint footpath and cycle path along the northern edge of Lancaster city centre reuses the trackbed of the railway line that once linked the city's two main railway stations, Castle (the London & North Western Railway station) and Green Ayre (the Midland Railway station). This photo, looking towards the site of Green Ayre station (closed in 1966 and demolished ten years later) was taken from the point where Vicarage Lane crosses the path.
