The erection of new fencing and the removal of the swing gates at the level crossing has meant that a new support has been contrapted for this ancient posting box, which surely cannot see much use now? The box is a "lamp box" of a type originating around 1910, but with a later door for George V, placing it after 1910. These were known as "LA2" boxes.
