A small reminder that this was once the location of a busy steam locomotive depot. The extensive maintenance facility was opened in 1874 and closed in 1968, when British Rail stopped running steam trains. After the site was cleared, vegetation took over - silver birch woodland now predominates. Kingmoor Sidings Nature Reserve is managed by Carlisle City Council.
