Why this headstone is in Stratton Strawless churchyard is a mystery. No doubt someone knows why this Dublin-born, Glaswegian was buried here. William Francis SMARTT was for 25 years the Government Medical Officer in British Guiana. (Source CWGC). He is also listed on the FREEMASONS OF SOMERSET memorial. He certainly got around but why is his resting place here. Update 16th July 2018; I have received a very welcome email with a response which explains everything for which I am most grateful.
