Originally opened in 1751 as the Anchor Inn, most likely named after the method of moving heavy loads up the nearby Anchor Hill, now the A272, rather than any seafaring connections. It became the Farmers sometime in the last 20 years before changing its name gain to Inn on the Green around 2012.
