Hanging from a bracket here, http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/4579815 the sign depicts the future King Charles II and an oak, a reference to his hiding in an oak after his defeat by Cromwell's New Model Army at the Battle of Worcester on September 3rd 1651. Charles was a wanted man with a reward of £1,000 (a huge amount in the 17th century) for his capture.
