The old railway station buildings in South Road were demolished in 2005 to make way for this housing development which was originally called Red Hall Gardens because of its close proximity to the 17th century mansion but the name failed to win local support and although it persists on the Internet, it was changed by councillors in 2011 to the Great Northern Gardens to reflect the site’s previous railway association.
