Opened in 1870 as the City Poor House, in the area of Glenlockhart, it is architecturally anything but poor. Later it became Greenlea Old People's Home and, in the late 1980s - along with neighbouring buildings of the Edinburgh City Hospital - it was redeveloped as private housing, forming part of the prosperous Greenbank Village. Nearby is the exclusive Merchants of Edinburgh Golf Club. Photograph circa 1988. (Residual materials from the building works still to be seen in the street.)
