The Middlesex-Somerset County Championship match was played at Merchant Taylors' School. These spectators had walked from Moor Park tube station and were getting ready to show their Middlesex membership cards or pay at the gate (£15 adult, £10 over 65, £5 under 16). The school motto appears above the gate: concordia parvae res crescunt - small things grow in harmony. There is nothing small about the school's 250-acre playing field.
