Ashurst Four Acre field is ploughed every autumn to conserve the local weed flora. The great rarity here is Apera spica-venti, a delicate and beautiful grass, noted from this exact location by the great George Claridge Druce in the late 19th century as he prepared his Flora of Berkshire
