This is one of the grandest 18th-century houses in Nottingham, built in 1776. For more about it, and views of the street frontage, see Image] and Image The fine houses on Castle Gate, Low Pavement and Middle Pavement were prized because their south-facing windows and gardens had views over the Meadows (then meadows and yet to be built on) towards the Trent and the wolds beyond. The picture was taken at dusk on a hot June evening, so its colour is muted.
