A magnificent horse chestnut tree stands on the village green at Haconby, planted to commemorate Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee in 1897 and the centrepiece of revels and celebrations for many years afterwards as well as being an attraction for local youngsters who met underneath the canopy, swung from its lower branches and played the traditional game of conkers when the seeds dropped in the autumn.
