Chartley Castle ruins

Romantic and substantial ruins of Chartley Castle, grade II* listed and a Scheduled Ancient Monument. Originally a motte-and-bailey castle built c1100 by the Earls of Chester, it was rebuilt in stone in 1220 by Ranulph de Blondeville, 4th Earl of Chester.
