St Peter and St Paul's Church was erected on Chingford Green in 1844 and became the 'new' parish church. It was largely funded by Robert Boothby Heathcote, Rector of the parish and Lord of the Manor of Chingford Earls. It was designed by Lewis Vulliamy. It replaced All Saints Church to the west, which was the original parish church, dating back to at least the 12th century. The latter was rescued from dereliction in 1928.
