This area used to have workers' cottages, was bombed, became a breaker's yard, then in 1987 was redeveloped with affordable housing, now all privately owned. There was space in the original plans for garden areas in the square but these became neglected. In 2009 residents redeveloped the gardens, at the four corners and this central feature with a table and chairs under a pillared roof.
