View southward, towards Reading, where this 08.49 Summer Saturday express from Sandwich had joined the ex-GWR main line on its way to Wolverhampton via Oxford. The locomotive is 'Castle' class 4-6-0 No. 5076 'Gladiator' (built 8/38 as 'Drysllwyn Castle' - like No. 5051 before it! - and withdrawn 9/64 - very soon after this working).
