Built c 1901, by Matthew Horner Graham for G G Laidlaw, as a handsome Edwardian medicines manufactory and offices; the name is after the famous Greek physician of the 2nd C http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Galen . Red brick piers rise up from a very tall ground floor of stone arches and columns; the two main sides are flanked by tall bay windows, and at each corner there is a squat octagonal tower with round windows. The building has been converted into shops and around 60 housing association flats. The building is not listed. The Buildings of Grainger Town - No.199. See Image
