Alongside the A27 Southampton Road. The Romsey and District Society blue plaque http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/4503585 on the wall records that Gunville Gate House was built in 1864 by the London & South Western Railway to serve the Southampton Turnpike Road which was rerouted from Broadlands (country estate). The plaque does not record when this building ceased being a toll house, but it was probably less than a decade later. Tolls on turnpike roads in the UK were abolished in 1872, after which the roads were maintained by local authorities.
