The trees, on the horizon, mark the route of the A258 road and the line of trees, on the distant-left in Image, follow the route of a contractor's (S Pearson & Son) single railway line from Martin Mill to a point 300 feet above Dover. The track was lifted in 1937 but was relayed early in World War Two in order to erect and serve two massive cliff-top guns.
