Large tracts of land around Langtoft have been excavated for sand and gravel and these operations continue in several places but those areas which have been exhausted have been left to fill with water and then reclaimed through natural regeneration, landscaping and the planting of trees to create a very attractive rural scene and an official Site of Special Scientific Interest.
