Water Valve Sign South Street

This water valve sign is high up on the wall of a house on the east side of South Street. The bricks appear to be hand made and a large number of the bricks have linear indentation marks on them where other bricks were stacked on top of them during the firing process. The bricks are laid in Flemish bond with headers alternating with stretchers every other brick. The length of the brick seems pretty consistent but the width seems to have considerable variation. In the mid 19th C there were seven brickyards within a mile of the town centre but they all closed by the 20th C.
