Stagecoach Manchester 17200 (V363 OWC), a Dennis Trident with Alexander bodywork climbs Penny Meadow. Originally the eastern part of Katherine Street, this road was renamed “Penny Meadow” in 1962. The land here was known as Penny Meadow before Katherine Street was built; it is believed that the name comes from the Reverend John Penny, parish priest of St Michael’s Parish Church in the 18th century (http://www.ashton-under-lyne.com/history/streetnames.htm Ashton-Under-Lyne.com).
