Arms of George Cruickshank (Or, three boars' heads couped sable) impaling those of his wife, Barbara Hervie (or Harvey) of Elrick [Gules, a fesse (chequy?) or, between three mullets in chief and a mascle in base argent] above the archway to the courtyard of the A-listed Cruickshank's Lodgings (see: http://data.historic-scotland.gov.uk/pls/htmldb/f?p=2200:15:0::::BUILDING:20299 ). The date 1655 may refer to their marriage or the building of the house. Blazons from Burke's General Armory (1884 edition).
