Per Ardua Ad Astra - the motto of the Royal Air Force (RAF). According to the College of Arms an authoritative translation is not possible, but the usual translation is "Through Adversity to the Stars". The memorial is situated in the grounds of the former Station Commander's house, now the Heritage Centre. The memorial's inscription reads: "In memory of all those who served at this station and of the many who lost their lives in the course of duty."
