One of the headwaters of the River Wandle. In the 18th/19th century the Wandle was perhaps the most industrially-exploited river in the country: its rapid drop to the Thames made it possible to construct mills very close together along much of its length. Waddon Ponds, I suspect, began as a millpond. In the distance, the twin chimneys of Croydon's former power station, now the only surviving parts of the building and marking the location of IKEA.
