The cap of limestone on The Beacon has been quarried in the past. It is curious that the downland scenery on Cretaceous and Jurassic limestones is often CRoW "Access Land", but this tiny concession is not extended to the similar scenery, agriculture and geomorphology of the Silurian limestones of Herefordshire and Shropshire.
