Tiverton has had a large number of pubs over the years. Some of the earliest include the Angel Hotel dating from at least 1612 on Angel Hill, the White Horse on Gold Street 1643, and the Half Moon off Fore Street which was going by 1744 and was a meeting place for combers and weavers.
