The blue plaque records that the ancient town garden behind the wall was the site of a real tennis court in the 17th century and a bowling green by 1718. Roman and Norman remains lie deep beneath the lawn. Admiral Lord Nelson and his entourage took tea in the garden on August 19th 1802.
