The uneven surface sign is really just a given on these fenland roads. Most of the roads are gradually collapsing into the drains on either side. Most drivers drive down the centre of the road even when they are two lanes wide. That way being pitched unto a drain is less likely. But it is a real test of nerves if a vehicle is approaching from the opposite direction. Who gives way? and who risks a swim in the drain?
