Bournemouth - The former Criterion Arcade

The arcade started life as "Ashley Cottages" a group of thatched buildings built by Sir George Tapps in 1812. Bournemouth's first Town Hall was built on the site in 1875, whose civic offices were incorporated into what then became the Criterion Hotel. Conversion into what would become the Criterion Arcade was completed in 1886, which survived well into the next century. The final conversion of the arcade to shop premises was completed in 1991 whose distinctive arched entrance lives on as a facade to the frontage of Topshop and Monsoon. Image
