The second of two posthumously awarded recipients of the Victoria Cross in this Bournemouth suburban street was Sergeant Frederick Charles Riggs. He was killed in action near Epinoy in 1918 and whose home was here at 39, Capstone Road (since demolished). He had also been previously awarded the Military Medal. The plaque is located on the nearest surviving house to 39, at no. 45. Image Image
