Former Primitive Methodist Church, 1879, in High Street, Martin

The first Primitive Methodist chapel in Martin was built in Mill Street in 1837. It was replaced by the High Street Primitive Methodist chapel in 1879. Following Methodist Union in 1932, the former Martin Wesleyan Methodist Society and the former Martin Primitive Methodist Society worked towards uniting the two congregations; this was formerly accomplished in 1936, at which time the former Wesleyan Methodist chapel closed and the congregations united in the former Primitive Methodist chapel. It finally closed in 1988 and the premises are now occupied by Majestic Crystal Ltd. With thanks to Dave Hitchborne for this information.
