Built in 1886, Bawdsey Manor was the site of the Bawdsey Research Station and RAF Bawdsey between 1936 and 1990. It was taken over by the Air Ministry in March 1936 for developing the Chain Home (CH) RDF (radar) system. The site later hosted a Bristol Bloodhound surface-to-air missile station until 1990. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RAF_Bawdsey
