View northward down the ECML to Peterborough and beyond, the line to Cambridge branching off ahead to the right and the ex-Midland line to Bedford to the left. This is A1 No. 60158 'Aberdonian' (built 11/49, withdrawn 12/64). Hitchin station was an ideal place to see and enjoy all varieties of steam train in those halcyon days.
