Looking north from near the junction with East Street. Nos. 47-55, a group of 1930s single-storey shops formerly on the right just beyond Natwest Bank, to which the oeil-de-boeuf window on East Street belongs, have been demolished. This is possibly the most significant development to the high street since the war. Presumably they will be replaced by a two-storey development. No. 55 was occupied by The Art Shop for just over a decade from 1975.
