At the junction with Preston Road, the newly-built Archbishop Sentamu Academy, sponsored by the Diocese of York, opened for business in September 2011. It was officially opened by the Archbishop of York, Dr John Sentamu, 10 October 2011. On 25 March 2015 the Academy hosted a day of celebration and welcome to the new Bishop of Hull designate, Reverend Canon Alison White, the second woman in the Church of England to be appointed to the role of Bishop.
