Viewed across West Street in April 2015, when notices warn Dangerous Structure - Keep Out. Scaffolding is on the roofless and overgrown ruin of a house built in 1596, later extended. After the owning family died out, it was abandoned in the early 18th century. A Scheduled Ancient Monument, the Old Place was Grade II listed in 1982 as a ruined survival of a major late 16th century house. The building is also known locally (though inaccurately) as Llantwit Major Castle or fittingly as The Ruins.
