Wimborne - former site of Lady Exeter's Almshouses

The car park that is beyond the wooden fence in the photo was the former site of Lady Exeter's Almshouses. In the will of Gertrude Courtenay, Marchioness of Exeter in 1557, she called for six houses to be built for the poor. They were completed in 1560, and survived for 400 years, lost forever when they were demolished in 1960. Image
