This bench mark was established in 1848 during the First primary levelling of England & Wales, and was levelled with a height of 392.7360 feet [119.7059 metres] above mean sea level (Liverpool datum). It was included on the Birmingham to London levelling line. The surveyor's description was "No. 88. Mark on the 10th milestone from Coventry and 80th from London ; 1.67 ft. above surface" (p222). The 1887 and all subsequent old maps shows this mark on the north face of the milestone, south side of road. There is an old worn benchmark on this milestone, 0.4m above ground level, but it is on the west face. It is not listed on OS database. Either the maps were wrong or the stone has been moved.
