They died when their Zeppelin crashed in the village. They were later exhumed and reburied at the German war cemetery at Cannock Chase. There were three survivors of the crash. One of them believed to be Heinrich Ellerkamm, was taken to a local house in Theberton. When the door opened and the occupant asked if she could look after him until the arrival of the authorities, her reply was “Not likely lock the bugger in the shed.”
